Labor Doula

Cord Labor Doulas are committed to providing professional, continuous, and unbiased support to laboring moms and birth partners throughout the birthing process. Our passionate doulas are skilled at natural pain relief tactics, grace-filled communication skills to ensure a positive relationship with all care providers, and insight into standard medical procedures to help provide you with the information you need to make an empowered decision for your body and your baby. Our doulas partner with you to create a Birth Preferences List to help guide your birthing process, then ensure this list is distributed to all care providers during labor. All moms utilizing our labor doulas also receive free access to two unique Cord Collective events: prenatal Birthing Mama Mixers and postpartum Birth Story Processing Circles. These events provide the opportunity to commune with other pregnant families at similar positions on their birthing journeys, as well as a safe place to process the birth experience with a certified Birth Story Listener.

While the continuous physical and emotional support of birthing moms is the foremost focus of our doulas, each Cord doula has also completed an introductory birth photography class, and, if appropriate, will capture a few images during labor and/or the postpartum period if desired. When your doula visits you in your home at your postpartum appointment, she will bring a few of these images professional printed out for you. Postpartum Doula

Many moms are caught off guard by the physically and emotionally taxing demand of the postpartum period. With a brand-new baby, the physical challenges of birth, and the possible challenges of breastfeeding, postpartum healing, infant care, baby blues, and sibling transition, the postpartum period can be marked by exhaustion, disillusionment and discouragement. Our uniquely trained doulas can provide education and relief to transform this period into the “babymoon” it is meant to be, and provide you the opportunity to rest and enjoy the newest addition to your family.

A few of the possible tasks our doulas may provide include: breastfeeding/bottle-feeding support, infant care, baby-wearing, family transition with older siblings, infant soothing techniques, nursery organization, light housework, meal preparation, nearby errands, laundry and more.

Welcome Home Package: $475

One of our seasoned postpartum doulas will meet with you during pregnancy to discuss your postpartum concerns and craft a plan to uniquely meet your immediate needs after birth. She will accompany you home directly upon discharge from your birthing location, and provide physical, emotional, and transitional support to you and your family. This typically includes 4-6 hours of support, and may include any of the following services:

  • Breast/bottle-feeding support
  • Sleep support
  • Review sleeping arrangements
  • Provide postpartum healing strategies
  • Supporting sibling transition

Hourly Rates for Custom Packages:

Daytime support (7am-7pm): $40/hour [12 hour minimum – 3 hour/day minimum]

Nighttime support (7pm-7am): $45/hour [8 hour/day minimum

We partner with you to customize our postpartum packages to meet the specific needs of your family, situation and preferences, and offer a price break for clients booking larger packages (over 25 hours).

Sibling Doula

It is often a challenge to find an individual to provide safe, nurturing support to your other children while you are in labor; especially if you are laboring during the night. Older children may be uncomfortable with the birthing experience, or may present a distraction for a laboring couple, prohibiting them from being able to focus on each other and the laboring process. It can fracture a laboring mother’s attention and labor effectiveness to have her birth partner distracted and unable to fully support her during labor.

A Cord Collective sibling doula provides continuous, gentle support for your older children, enabling your birth partner to surround you with uninterrupted support as your labor. If you desire to have your child present while you are birthing, your sibling doula provides gentle, child-friendly explanations of what is happening, and helps make the experience as comfortable as possible for older siblings.

Sibling Doula Package: $650

  • Free consultation to discuss your concerns, expectations, and the specifics of supporting your older child during your labor – this provides an opportunity to discuss any medications, allergies, etc. that your child experiences.
  • Up to twenty-four hours of support for your older child – daytime or nighttime
  • Sibling doula will pickup/drop off your older child at daycare, school, etc. if necessary.
  • If birthing away from the home, your sibling doula is happy to bring your child to meet the new baby at the birthing location.
  • 24/7 on call availability two weeks before and after your due date to ensure you have the support for your older child

Our sibling doula package includes support for one child. Supporting additional children incurs a cost of $75/each. If clients require more than 24 hours of sibling support, an hourly rate of $25/hour will be charged.

Please note, a sibling doula does not replace the need for a labor doula.

Placenta Encapsulation

Research on placenta consumption suggests the following[1]

  • Reduces postpartum bleeding
  • Speeds up postpartum recovery
  • Boosts energy
  • Alleviates postpartum “blues”
  • Increases milk production
  • Increases protein and lactose compilation in breastmilk
  • Provides postpartum pain relief

The placenta is brimming of life-giving, energizing hormones, iron, protein and chemicals. Our placenta specialists gently and safely prepare your placenta by thoroughly cleaning it and removing all membranes. They then either steam it (Traditional Chinese Medicine) or prepare it raw. After drying the placenta, it is then ground into a fine powder and encapsulated for easy consumption.

Placenta Services and Pricing:

Encapsulation (raw or Traditional Chinese Medicine): $230

Cord Keepsake: included

Placenta Print Keepsake: $15

By stamping your placenta on a quality piece of watercolor paper, a beautiful “tree of life” piece of art results, acting as a striking reminder of motherhood and birth.
Mother’s Healing Salve

Our placenta specialists remove a small piece of your placenta and place it to rest in a 4-8 oz. jar of high proof alcohol for at least six weeks. This process gently extracts many of the powerful, beneficial hormones present in your placenta and can be used to relieve the symptoms of PMS, postpartum bleeding cycles and even menopause!

Mother’s Tincture

Like nature’s Neosporin [but without all the chemicals], this powerful blend of healing herbs and oils can relieve anything from diaper rash to sunburn, from surgery to cracked nipples. Insect bites, eczema, and skin irritations, this amazing salve provides relief from a huge array of skin maladies.

Many of these issues are easily remedied by a skillful eye and gentle education. Our certified Lactation Consultants listen to and observe your experience and partner with you to build an effective strategy to empower and liberate you to enjoy the beautiful bond of nourishing your child. Cord Lactation Consultants visit you in the comfort of your own home, and offer the empathetic support and practical encouragement to you on your breastfeeding journey.
